Dance/Light
Dance/Light is an annual dance show put on by Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama. It is a collection of nearly 20 pieces of varying styles; each song with a different student choreographer, lighting designer, costume designer, and stage manager. There is was 1 PSM, 1 Deck SM, and 7 rotating calling Stage Managers. As one of the calling SMs, I was tasked with running a small portion of tech and calling cues for the final two pieces of the show that totalled 11 dancers.
My first piece was a cut of the song Achilles Come Down by Gang of Youths, choreographed by Alana Wu. It was contemporary movement paired with slow fading warm lights and nude-colored, torn, greek-adjacent leotards.
My second piece, the closing number, was a remix of Begging by Måneskin, choreographed by Michael Basil Cook. It was a modern hip hop dance, that included tricking, done in baggy 2000s streetwear with specific bumped lighting cues and rotating gobos.
