The Murder of Roger Ackroyd

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, adapted by Mark Shanahan and directed by Charles Morey, is based on the Agatha Christie novel of the same title. Thought to be one of the best "whodunnit"'s ever, this two act play takes place in the fictional village King's Abbot, England where every character has motive to off the titular wealthy businessman in the mansion up on the hill.

This, nearly two and a half hour, mystery play also happens to be my first equity contract. Having studied the AEA LORT contract for months in college, it was actually really refreshing to put that knowledge into practice. Calculating hours, setting up water stations, and everything of the like. I also learned a great deal from people who have been in the union longer than I have been alive, and cherished this whole experience. â€‹

During this show, I got the chance to be part of a team with actor Christian Pedersen, depicted in the upper right photograph holding a prop dagger, in which he would end a fight sequence by "throwing the knife into a wall." I got to be on the other side of the wall, working in tandem with him to make this trick look real for every fight call and performance. For the duration of this run, I learned how important rapport is with the people you see every day, and we - alongside many others - created many little backstage traditions together that I will never forget.
