Sweeney Todd
Sweeney Todd, composed by Stephen Sondheim, is a full length musical that I had the pleasure of being the Assistant Stage Manager on for NYU Steinhardt. Directed and choreographed by Valerie Rachelle, this production of Sweeney Todd was done with nearly all scenes included.
The scenery consisted of two moving staircases, large picnic tables, chairs, a harmonium, and of course the giant rotating barbershop box with the chair slide to match. We utilized multiple angles and moments to capture the deaths of Sweeney's victims, with blood and all. Each location had a new stair/box configuration to represent it, tracked by me and physically moved by the student performers.
Though I did not know much about Sweeney Todd prior to joining this production, it has quickly become a favorite of mine and I hope to do it again some day!
