Macbeth

Macbeth, directed by Sofia Osborne, was adapted by herself and Matthew Blankley for presentation through Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama. This 90 minute cut was set in the original 11th century period, however gender was not a construct of their society. It told the story of ambition, prophecy, and what happens when the ones we love are put to the test. The show was established with a small cast, where every actor, except the titular character, played 2-4 roles.

Stage Managing this show led me to take on challenges I had never dealt with:

1. An alleyway stage, in which a prop or costume would end up behind one seating bank, and the quick thinking it took to get everything where it needed to be for the next scene.

2. Pneumatic scenery, where every death in our world was symbolized by a boulder that dropped from linesets above, completely controlled by me via a panel in the booth. It would coincide with a lighting and sound cue as well, but the switch would not always be flipped at the same time as the "go."

3. A multitude of quick changes, since actors were sometimes quadruple casted, and would have back to back scenes as different characters. This also doubled with the previous challenge of actors changing characters on one side of the stage, and then having to return to that character much later with a different exit.

4. Sword fighting. I took on the responsibility of being our show's Fight Captain, under the wing of our wonderful Fight Choreographer Tonya Lynn. I had the chance to learn the proper terminology, and weaponry care, for broadsword fighting. We also had different naps and foleys for attacks, strangles, slaps, and neck snaps. It was an unforgettable experience, and had me hoping to work on more shows with fight choreography in the future.
